Martin Pecina — Portfolio — English Resumé

Twenty-five years old slave of an advertisment. Very cynical, very dissociable, but interested in free arts (graphics, drawing, caligraphy) and graphic and web design. And writing poems to don’t get mad.

You can contact me by e-mail, I will probably answer. Your chances are getting higher if you’re sympatic female. :)

English Resumé

Graphic and web designer, theoretician, entertainer and beer philosopher from the middle of Europe, Czech Republic. Author of typomil.com website, dedicated to type and typography. Almost every week I write about typography, graphic design, culture and czech language on my typofilos blog. From 2006 I’m an author of Typo revue (published in czech and english).

My portfolio contains a few simple sections. Go to free arts to see my caligraphed posters and drawings, or to graphic design to see commercial arts. If you’re interested in web design, don’t miss this section. At last, go to poetry to read some strongly decadent poems (czech only :)).

Arts

Frankly speaking, I don’t like contemporary art too much, but there’re some people I can name: Francisco de Goya, Francis Bacon, Franz Kline, Kazimir Malevič, Terry Haas, Michael Rittstein, Franta Skála, Boris Jirků, Antonín Kroča, Vladimír Boudník…

Literature

From my childhood I was always solitaire, so there was quite a lot of time to read books. Unfortunately, at present time I don’t have any, this is why I read just technical literature useful for my profession. Recommendations: Henry Miller (The Rosy Crucificion trilogy, Tropic of Cancer, Black Spring), F. M. Dostojevskij, Franz Kafka (everything), Čapek, Hrabal, Puzo, Poe and many others.

Movies

Stanley Kubrick (Clockwork Orange!), Sergio Leone (damn good westerns), Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather, Apokalypse now), old hong-kong production (Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Gordon Liu), contemporary eastern cinematography (Oldboy, The Island, Hero). I can feel I’m starting to hate David Lynch and american comic books adaptations.

Music

Almost everything except dance music and stupid pop. Moonspell, Tristania, Type O Negative, Theatre of Tragedy, Nick Cave, Pearl Jam, Dave Mathews Band, classical music.

I’m just listening...
